“letsgotohimalaya.com” was created by my father, Dorche Tamang, and myself, Sunil Tamang. We organize and lead treks throughout the Nepalese Himalayas with an exploratory spirit, immersing ourselves and our guests in the tranquility of nature, the magnificence of the mountains, and the authentic insight and culture of local people.
Dorche began trekking the Himalayas 26 years ago. Over the years, he has worked as a porter, a cook, and a licensed guide in the Langtang Valley, the Annapurnas, and the Khumbu-Everest Valley. He is fluent in English, and loves cracking jokes. Born in Syaphru- gateway to the Langtang Valley in the Rasuwa district – Dorche knows the area extremely well, and is a highly knowledgeable trekking companion. With his warm disposition and playful spirit, he’s truly a friend to all.
Sunil (that’s me!) was also born in the village of Syaphru. An ‘adventurer’ by nature, my very first journey into the Himalayas was at the tender age of eight, when I ran away from home to attend the Janai Purnima festival at the Gosainkunda Lake, at an altitude of 4380 meters. I fell in love with sight of the Himalayas – so huge, so fascinating – and became eager to explore these majestic mountains and their people. This desire leads me on a journey that has lasted over a decade and continues today.
On my 20th birthday in 2011, I began the Great Himalaya Trail -known as the ‘mother’ of all treks in Nepal- by myself. Traveling East to West over 128 days, I became the very first solo-trekker to ever complete this famous trail. Upon my return, I became a government-certified trekking guide, and have since led groups through famous trekking trails in the Langtang, Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, and Mustang mountain ranges, I’ve also lead treks in the remote, yet beautiful, wilderness of Kanchenjunga, Dolpo, Makalu, and Nar-phu.
